4. Bernie and Slovak Ecclestone settlement, $1.2 billion

Bernie Ecclestone, the former CEO of Formula One, is well known for his wealth, but his divorce settlement is one of the oddest in history. Ecclestone has collected more than half a billion dollars from his ex trust wife’s in the 11 years after their divorce. Yet you wouldn’t call him the winner in this case because Ecclestone’s assets were transferred into Slovakia’s name when he was suffering from major heart issues in the late 1990s.

It appears that Slavic is paying him around $100 million every year. He underwent a triple bypass in 1999 and if he had died, his daughters would have been liable to 40% British death duties compelling him to transfer the assets. Slavic theoretically still owns the deeds and pink slips to a lot of his possessions, as well as a cool $1.2 billion settlement of her own. More than two decades later.
